Center- State relations
With the help of Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojana (UDAY) program, the electricity distribution companies (discoms) in four states —Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Andhra Pradesh — have made a combined profit of $230 million in the FY18 as compared with an aggregate loss of $1.5 billion in the FY17.

Gujarat
The Gujarat government announced the Surya Shakti Kisan Yojana program under which farmers will be encouraged to generate electricity and sell the surplus to power distribution companies. The state will provide financial assistance to 12,400 farmers to generate 175 megawatts (MW) of power.

The Gujarat government announced a Wind-Solar Hybrid Power Policy, with a coverage period of five years. The policy which provides incentives to renewable power producers supplying to the grid as well as to those generating for captive use, aims to make optimum use of land and existing grid infrastructure.

Haryana

Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu is among the states which saw significant lending to the renewable energy projects and zero lending to coal projects in 2017, according to a report by the Center for Financial Accountability. The report titled “Coal vs Renewables Finance Analysis,” describes how only 12 of India’s 29 states attracted renewable energy project financing in 2017. According to a policy note of the Tamil Nadu’s energy department, the state has a total installed renewable energy capacity of 11,113 MW as of March 31, 2018.
