PowerGrid and the Jammu and Kashmir power department switched on the Alusteng-Alunday stretch of the 217 mile Srinagar-Kargil-Leh transmission line, powering inhospitable terrain such as the frontier districts of Ladakh and Kargil, which are separated from the Kashmir Valley by the Himalayas.
